Kalanggaman Island is truly a paradise for beach lovers. I’ve been there twice. My latest visit was just last week (March 30-31, 2015). You can check out some of the enchanting photos of Kalanggaman island, its long white sandbar and its clear waters in my previous post (you can also read some useful tips before going to Kalanggaman Island in that article). For everyone who wants to experience the island’s charm and beauty this summer or anytime of the year, here’s how you can go and visit Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte.

Where is Kalanggaman Island?
Kalanggaman Island is located in the municipality of Palompon, province of Leyte, Philippines. It is an hour boat ride from the town proper of Palompon.

First things first
Before finalizing your plan or itinerary to Kalanggaman Island, call first Palompon’s Ecotours Office for reservation of pumpboat and for other important inquiries, especially if you’re going there on peak season like summer and holiday seasons. You may call their Booking Service Desk Officer, Mr. Christopher Montebon at +639173037269.
What is the nearest International Airport?
The nearest International airport to Palompon is Mactan-Cebu International Airport (Cebu Airport) in Mactan, Cebu. This is the ideal route if you’re travelling from abroad.
If there are no direct flights from your country to Cebu, another option is to book a flight to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay, Metro Manila. From there, you can connect your flight to Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport (Tacloban City, Leyte), the nearest domestic airport to Palompon, Leyte. Travel time from Manila to Tacloban via airplane is approximately one hour. There are also buses from Cubao Quezon City or Pasay City in Metro Manila that travel directly to Palompon Leyte. However it takes around 27 hours to complete the travel (the bus fare is around P1,600).
San Juanico Bridge, connecting the islands of Samar and Leyte, is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Eastern Visayas. It’s a 15-minute ride from Tacloban Downtown by bus, passenger jeepney, multicab or private vehicle.
What is the nearest Domestic Airport?
The nearest domestic airport to Palompon is Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport (Tacloban City Airport). This is the ideal air route if you’re travelling from Metro Manila.
If you will travel from abroad to Cebu Airport, you may also connect your flight to Tacloban Airport, which is already 3 hours away to Palompon via van/land travel (the van’s fare per person is P150). Some tourists prefer to visit Tacloban City (the center of Eastern Visayas) and explore its famous nearby places like San Juanico Bridge and MacArthur Memorial Park before they go to Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte.
Super Shuttle Ferry has daily trips from Bogo, Cebu to Palompon, Leyte, and vice versa.
How to go to Palompon Leyte from Metro Cebu?
From Cebu, there are these shipping lines that travel directly to Palompon Leyte and back to Cebu.

– Palompon, Leyte to Bogo, Cebu at 7:30PM daily
According to Google Places, Super Shuttle Ferry’s office is located at 38 Gorordo Ave, Cebu City, 6000 Cebu with telephone number (032) 231 0639. The company doesn’t have a working website at this time.

How to go to Palompon from Tacloban City?
In Tacloban City, go to Tacloban New Bus Terminal in Brgy. Abucay. Ask where the vans are that go to Palompon, Leyte. The travel time from Tacloban to Palompon is approximately 3 hours, and the fare per person is Php 150.
How to go to Kalanggaman Island from Palompon Town?
Going to Kalanggaman Island from Palompon town is a 1-hour boat ride. It is advisable for tourists to call first Palompon’s Ecotours office to book for a pumpboat or ask the officer if you can arrange to share a boat with other passengers to save money. The pumpboats are just anchored at the back of Eco-tours office.

The rates for pumpboats (round trip) are the following:
P3,000 – for 15 people and below
P3,500 – for 25 people and below
P4,000 – for 30 people and below

Where is Palompon’s Ecotours Office located?
Palompon’s Office of the Eco-tourism is located near Palompon’s Municipal Hall and in front of Liberty Park. It is also a walking distance from the town’s bus/van terminal and public market.

You will also be paying fees for entrance to Kalanggaman Island at the Eco-tours office. The following are the different entrance fees for different types of tourists (call the desk officer for the latest fees):

Where to stay in Palompon?
There are two choices for you. You can either stay at Palompon town or stay overnight at Kalanggaman Island.

The first time I went to Kalanggaman, we did not stay overnight at the island. We stayed at Juan Titang Beach Resort. The following are some of the choices for your accommodation at mainland Palompon.

Staying overnight in Kalanggaman Island
If you like to enjoy and fully embrace the beauty of Kalanggaman Island, I recommend that you stay there overnight. Just bring a camping tent with you. Spending the night at the island will give you an opportunity to experience sunset and sunrise at this paradise. Stargazing is also a wonderful experience you should not miss in the island. But of course make sure that you go there when the weather is nice and the skies are clear.

Hi Tom. During our first visit we stayed at Juan Titang Beach Resort. The second, we stayed overnight on the island, bringing our own camping tent. I cannot really give a judgment on the other hotels/inns in Palompon town because we did not stay with them. But the best place in my own opinion is to stay overnight on the island to enjoy the place night and day. We love the nature and we love adventure.

Hi. There are no stores where you can buy on the island. You can buy foods and drinks at Palompon Town Market, which is near the docking area to the island.
