How to Get a Digitized TIN Card with the BIR

February 9, 2015 By Joan Cyril Abello 111 Comments

BIRPlease read: Update as of July 11, 2015: It seems that the BIR is not already issuing a digitized TIN Card for taxpayers.

Recently, we processed a new application for registration of TIN for our new business, and the BIR has only issued us a TIN card that is printed on a cardboard. We also directly asked the OIC/Asst. RDO of RD 14-Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, and she confirmed to us that the BIR has already stopped the issuance of a digitized TIN Card.

According to this source, the BIR hopes to roll out by year 2016 an updated Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) card that will electronically store personal data and eventually have other uses. So as of now, we expect that the BIR will only issue a TIN card that is printed in a cardboard. The requirements are still the same. Take note that the TIN card is free.

One of the important government identification cards that Filipinos must get is the TIN (Tax Identification Number) ID. This is a valid card that will never expire. Therefore, this is convenient to have. Good news is, it is easy to get a TIN ID from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) office. Here are the steps for the application that anyone can easily follow.

Requirements

It is easy to get a TIN ID because there are a few requirements. Applicants should just bring their NSO Birth Certificate with them. Moreover, they need to bring at least one valid ID especially for those who have existing TIN already.

  1. Go to the local BIR office in the city or town.
  2. Bring birth certificate and valid ID.
  3. Fill up TIN application form (there are different kinds of forms, ask assistance to find the right form).
  4. Submit the application form at the counter. Present a valid ID or the birth certificate.
  5. Wait for Tax Identification Number to be given.
  6. Request for your TIN Card ID, which applicants are entitled to according to E.O. 98.
  7. Wait for the ID. If the office is not busy, it can be processed within 1 hour. However, during very busy days, applicants may need to return the next day.

Having a TIN ID is an advantage. It will let the person transact with offices, especially government ones. For questions and concerns about getting a Taxpayer’s Identiication Number (TIN) and the TIN card, they can check out the website of the BIR. They can also visit their local RDO office directly.

Sad to inform that BDO doesn’t honor BIR-TIN Digitized like this one as a valid ID , as of now 03-26-2015 or is it just in a particular branch.

This should be amended… this is a misinformation as I called BIR Customer Assistance at the Main Office and I was confirmed that they have already stopped issuing Digitized BIR TIN IDs since 2000. So whoever wrote or published this should amend this post.

Hello thank you sa info kung saan kukuha. Pero follow up question: Kailangan ba sa current place of residence, hindi pwede sa city/ place of birth?

i suggest to bring the authenticated nso birth certificate and photocopy. if they would be asking for your authenticated copy, for reference/verification purposes only but they will return it to you as soon as the verification process has ended because not all rely on the photocopy alone, they still look for the authenticated one.

We had the same experience with DFA, need talaga nila ay digitized ID.

    RDO 43-A
I applied and paid for my TIN card replacement on November 30, 2015 and told that the TIN card will be ready on the 2nd or 3rd week of December.
I asked if it’s still the carton/paper ID and they confirmed it.
More than 30 days to print a card? They said it is because they don’t have the paper/carton used for the ID’s in stock.
    Out of stock? Really?!

But when I initially asked the guard on how I can replace my TIN card, he immediately pushed me back and said that BIR no longer transacts with individuals/employees and that I need to go back to my employer.

pede ka magkaroon ng tin number kahit wla pang work…fill up mo ung BIR Form 1904 tapos tick mo ung E.O. 98 as Tax Payer Type. [E.O. 98 – Securing a TIN to be able to transact with any Government Office]

      Hello John,

The TIN ID has no expiration date since the tax identification number issued by the BIR to a taxpayer will be used by such person or entity for life. You cannot have two personal TINs, having more than one TIN is considered a criminal act.

However, in the future, future tax laws or government rules may issue a new TIN ID card format (still using your taxpayer identification number) for the betterment of government services, which may also require taxpayers to follow. But this is only a speculation since most government IDs now have modern features like VISA/Mastercard capabilities.
